Things that all happen in succession, or, An Exercise in Chronology Phone: My phone is still broken, but I'm supposed to be getting some new hi-tech sleek Motorola number today. It took me several phone calls (including a bout at the Mockingbird Rail Station) and a few e-mails to get it today. I can't wait to store 200 phone numbers again. Halloween: Although celebrated by everyone I know, I still don't feel enthused about the holiday. I never have. I'v always been so indecisive when it comes to dressing up. When I was a kid, my parents dressed me up as Oscar the Grouch. I was basically painted green with two to three packages of cheap face paint from Wal-Mart, and a garbage can with the bottom cut out. I still have faint scars from the jagged edge of the garbage can cutting into my cherub-like legs. I'll never forget having to walk Big Lake in the middle of the night with a flashlight and a pillowcase full of candy, bleeding into my shoes and trying not to cry. Publishing: Georgetown Review, Low Fidelity Press, Alligator Juniper. That's about all I'm submitting to. Bohemian Grove: I've been reading alot on Bohemian Grove in Monte Rio, California. There's a great article on Bohemian Grove written by Joel Van der Reijdan. | | Wednesday, October 26th, 2005 | | 1:25 am |
Tonight was the second night in the studio recording. We're only recording six songs, blowing right through them. We all show up and lay down the basic tracks, then we'll edit later. That's where the magic happens. For real. I mean magik. Like, spells and wizardcraft. In Other News:I've been doing alot of research on Big Lake Texas. I lived there from around Kindergarten age to fourth grade. Right Here. It was really a super small town with a combination drug store/general store/video store with two pizza places (one was called Pizza Pizzaz)and a street called Misssissippi. I lived on that street. | | Saturday, October 22nd, 2005 | | 9:53 pm |
I finally got it all. Plus Low's The Great Destroyer. Halloween is just about a week away. I haven't really decided to dress up, but if I did, I guess I'd be a priest. I can't think of anything else. My Elephant Man idea got nixed becuase I am sans a burlap sack (and von Recklinghausen's disease), and my Matthew Lesko idea is nixed....just because. Is it too much to ask, that you please remain behind the mask? | | Tuesday, October 18th, 2005 | | 1:01 am |
I ordered David Byrne's True Stories around three months back and I finally picked it up today. I had forgotten how good it was, but it's really making me think about Texas and when it was on the cusp of technology. What happend to the days that Texas was leading over other states, even countries, in microchip production and The Speak & Spell back in the late 70's? I think Texas has lost it's clout in this area. Once a superconductor for technology now standing with it's light switch off. We have tons of tacky jewelry and magnets though, perhaps we're leading in that? State shaped magnets seem to be the new way to show off where you've been. You can stick the whole upper half of the east coast on your freezer right underneath the handle if you wanted. You've been there. I'm saying that we should become leaders in some field, I don't know what. There's something troubling about a state in stagnation. So, this account is going friends only. So sorry to inconvenience anyone. | | Sunday, October 9th, 2005 | | 5:47 am |
I had a dream about Truman Capote last night. The farmhouse in Holcolm, Kansas. Creepy altogether but somehow befitting. I'm still reading Samuel Beckett's biography, and I can't go without saying that I feel prescited myself sometimes. How hideous is the semi-colon. | | Friday, October 7th, 2005 | | 11:10 am |
I think she deserved everything she got and more last night. To bad we were both plagued by sickness. I told her sister last night that even though we've been together this long I still have a big crush on her. I can't help it. I mean, it's like you know a person, and you're with a person, but no matter how much you tell them that you love them and vice versa, there's a part of you that's just enamored with them. I'm still enamored by her. Thanks to everyone who came out last night. Thanks to The Greenhouse for the backroom, but no thanks to guitar jazz. | | Thursday, October 6th, 2005 | | 8:47 am |
Started editing some stuff for the ALR just this last week. I just read that the judge this time around is Tim Gautreaux. He's a great guy, I had the chance to see him read here a few years back. Same Place, Same Thing is a great book. Today's Jane's birthday, she's 25. I bought her a Phrenology skull. She put it in the kitchen, and while I drank a glass of OJ I realized that the 'color' in my head was raised a little. Go Figure. | | Sunday, October 2nd, 2005 | | 10:39 pm |
We've got even more shows coming up. I remember a time when we were having to fight to get any shows, anywhere. Houses. Practice rooms. Clubs. Anywhere. Now it seems we have shows every week until November. At least one show a week all through October. To Eve....Ok, so I finished Elementary Particles. I liked it alot. I'm going to order Platform next, hopefully it's also translated by Frank Wynn. I've been listening to alot of The Velvet Underground lately, reading a biography on Samuel Beckett. I wonder what that means. I often feel like I'm Hamm in some respects... '...it's time it ended...and yet I hesitate, I hesitate to...to end.' | | Friday, September 30th, 2005 | | 10:38 pm |
I began reading Michel Houellebecq Elementary Particles today. So far so good. I began reading him out of the sheer comparison/combination to Douglas Coupland and Charles Bukowski. The only thing that bothers me a tiny bit is that it's translated from French into English, and much of the beginning chapters have a lot to do with Genetics and Biology. I'm not sure how scientific terminology differs between here and France, so I feel like I'm taking at guess at some terms. and still,Saturday October 1st ( tomorrow) Ben Cartwright Fra Pandolf Sarah Reddington The Pebble That Saved The World Fry Street, near the CityParc apartments | | Thursday, September 29th, 2005 | | 7:34 pm |
I finally went to my Physics Lab today after waiting....3 weeks to show. It wasn't as bad as I thought. I'm getting more and more into Physics so I'm beginning to appreciate it. We've got a show coming up at The Liquid Lounge in October. October 13th to be exact. Everyone should come, but be warned we are playing an acoustic set sans drummer. Just Shea, myself and Jacob. Hopefully things will go well, it'll be the first time we've played a show like this. Stellastar* was good last night. The Hourly Radio and Black Tie Dynasty did well, although Stellastar* just sealed the show. They were great, they really work off of one another. They've been playing for a lot longer, touring, recording etc. We've been together a year so were just now getting to that stage. BTW, we're recording next week at by Dan's Silverleaf sound engineer/producer, so we'll start actually having merch at shows. You can finally show how much you think were just alright by listening to us. | | Tuesday, September 27th, 2005 | | 12:04 pm |
Bloggin my way the only way I know how
My aeipathy for updating this thing is always a constant undercurrent in my life. Band News: We've got a ton of shows coming up. Yes a ton. 2240lbs of rock. We've got a slew of new songs, a new guitar player that brings expensive wine to practice and a new outlook on life. I forced Jacob to read Who Moved My Cheese?, and now we've got a new perspective on things. Plus a lot of Overdrive. The Pebble That Saved The World. Dustin News: Just submitted yet another rework of a story I wrote about a year ago. It's about Superman, so I hope everyone finds it....powerful and astonishing. Except it isn't about the power of Superman, it's more about Clark Kent. I needed an outlook for my comic book upbringing. I've gotten really into Physics lately. At first by force but now by choice. I still hate Math, but at least in Physics you're going somewhere. I hated the aspect of Math when you just solved for numbers. The application of the algebra makes it easier in my mind becuase commonsense plays alot into the mix. Jane's birthday is coming up. I've got thinks in the works. Now I'm going to go beat hapland like it owes me money. | | Saturday, September 24th, 2005 | | 11:32 pm |
I left work tonight and drove straight to see Brandon's last show with ZipZipZapZap. I arrived right after Manfactory finished and The Strange Boys were going on. They were great, probably one of the more unique bands here in Denton. Real talented guys those boys. It was awesome to see them play. I left early before ZipZipZapZap went on. I said bye to Brandon. The basement of J&J's smelled like chicken grease and BO. In other news, I really want some candy corn. I don't know why. Growing up, I hated it with a passion. A PASSION TO END ALL OTHERS. But now, I think I could handle it. | | Wednesday, September 21st, 2005 | | 5:31 pm |
It seems as if Grendal has reared her ugly head once more. Let's see if we can keep her away long enough to do something. | | 5:28 pm |

- brickhaus cafe:
I was a brickhaus fanatic when I first moved here in 2000. I was there for much of the bad poetry, the good poetry and the so-so music. Overall it was a good experience. - cheesy b-rated horror films:
I love Zombie films. I think the more dead you have in your movie the better. - denton:
I still like Denton alot. Growing up in a very small town, Denton is still city to me. I don't get tired of the potential Denton has, I get tired of the scene that Denton has. - foreign films:
Hit or Miss. Some I like, alot I don't. Perusing through my DVD/VHS Collection, I don't think I have a single foreign film. - herman hesse:
Demian was one of the best reads. I suggest it to everyone. Read it before you read The Confessions of Young Torless by Robert Musil. Oh yeah, The Glass Bead Game. Check it out. - larry mcmurtry:
I still have a soft spot in my heart for that guy. He yelled at me once while I was in Archer City. He didn't even look up from his newspaper as he berated me. The best berating of my life.
- photography:
I still take photos time to time. I still use alot of old photos for my writing. - sarah records:
All the way. Sarah Records was one of the last great record companies. I mean, it started out as a collection of mix tapes from a bunch of French and English kids. Top notch. The Field Mice and Trembling Blue Star. If you ever come across either band, buy their record quick. - the communist manifesto:
I read it. I helped Shep read it. - the phantom tollbooth:
The one Childrens book that is still on my shelf. It was the greatest read of my life for years and years.

There's a Lion at the door, and who's gonna answer?
Today was better toothwise. Jane and I went to Golden Corral, it was all soft. We thought we saw a man that was a woman, but I really think it was a woman. I ate some macaroni and cheese that tasted like they kind they make in high school cafeterias. I've downloaded every single off of the MagicMarker Records. I think Switchblade has a few of my albums that I bought there, I still can't find my Best Friends Group album. It was their first one, and it was really good. We practiced tonight in front of a small crowd, probably about ten or eleven people. It was quaint. Everyone likes our stuff, even when they're sober. We're to be aquiring a new member soon, Shelly. She's gonna be playing keyboards and some backup vocals and percussion. It should round things about a bit for our next two shows. I need to buy a blender. a hip one. |
